Our Story

Williams Heating Inc was founded in 1929 by Clayton J Williams and his son Digby E Williams, after the closure of the family sawmill on Judd Creek. The business was awarded one of the earliest Shell dealerships, and its initial customers were primarily chicken farmers who needed Kerosene to warm the chicken houses. Clayton left the island after a few years, and Digby ran the business, assisted by his son Clayton D Williams until he retired.

By that time, home heating oil had become the primary product, along with servicing oil fired furnaces and boilers. Williams Heating also was the primary gasoline source for the many Mom and Pop service stations on the Island at the time, and for diesel for the farm and construction use. Gasoline and Diesel products were originally delivered by barge to the property on Quartermaster Harbor, but by the mid 70's product was delivered by truck and trailer due to the high cost and environmental restrictions.

Clayton D ran the business until he retired in 1989, at which time his son Dennis moved back to the Island and purchased the business. Over time the business was relocated from the original Judd Creek site, to the family property on Quartermaster drive, then up to the West side of Vashon Highway North of Cemetery Road, and finally across the street to its current location at 19410 Vashon Highway SW. The business is currently a mix of Home Heating Oil, Burner Service, Fuel Hauling, and retail gasoline and diesel sales.
